She uses her critical thinking skills and ability to work under pressure to gather crucial information that helps the attorneys working on your case to achieve the best possible outcome.
Prior to joining Phillips & Associates, Ms. Peralta served as an intern with the United States Marshals Service. In her position there, she assisted in research, investigations and special projects to support the work of the department to which she was assigned. She maintained accurate records and files related to departmental areas of responsibility.
Ms. Peralta also worked as an administrative assistant for Alssaro Counseling Services and the Catholic Guardians Services in the Bronx. Among other things, she completed patient intakes, recorded communications, complied with HIPAA and company regulations to maintain confidentiality, developed spreadsheets to track and analyze patients’ weekly attendance, enhance office productivity and provide visitors and customers with friendly, knowledgeable assistance. She is fluent in English and Spanish, translating for Spanish speaking clients.
Ms. Peralta also has volunteer experience in the health care industry. She volunteered at the Metropolitan Hospital where she shadowed nursing staff, oversaw office inventory, and supported office needs. She also volunteered at RD Medical Doctors, where she updated and maintained detailed documents and spreadsheets by organizing patient files; answered and directed incoming calls using a multi-line telephone system; scheduled and confirmed appointments; and helped with office tasks, such as situating patients from waiting rooms to exam rooms.
Employment Laws that Protect You
If you’ve faced discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace, you are likely feeling substantial stress. Your job performance may be negatively impacted. It’s important to seek legal representation. Federal laws like Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act may protect you. The New York City Human Rights Law and the New York State Human Rights Law prohibit employment discrimination based on a wide range of characteristics and may provide broader protection. These laws may seem similar, but there are important differences between them, and an experienced lawyer can go through the facts gathered by Ms. Peralta or another intake specialist to determine what relief might be available and what arguments and evidence are best presented to the court.
If our lawyers successfully establish liability, we may be able to recover monetary damages on your behalf. These could include compensatory damages intended to make up for your losses arising out of the discrimination. We may be able to recover:
- Lost wages
- Mental distress
- Medical expenses
- Pain and Suffering
- Loss of enjoyment of life
- Expenses associated with finding new employment
- Other out-of-pocket costs.
In cases of egregious misconduct, it may be appropriate for us to pursue punitive damages, which are damages intended to punish and deter misconduct.
