Melissa Berouty
About
Ms. Berouty graduated from Bethune-Cookman University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Here, she was a member of her university’s NCAA Division I softball team, serving as captain in her final season. Among other sports-related honors, she was named an NFCA Academic All-American, her university’s Athletics’ Woman of the Year, and was nominated for the NCAA’s Woman of the Year. Off the field, she served as President of Alpha Phi Sigma - Eta Sigma Chapter and was an Excelsior Scholar.
Ms. Berouty furthered her education at Drexel University Kline School of Law. She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Legal Studies with a concentration in NCAA Compliance and Sports Law.
Ms. Berouty would later graduate from Syracuse University College of Law with her Juris Doctor. While in law school, Ms. Berouty served as the Managing Editor of the News for the Journal of Global Rights and Organizations and Impunity Watch News. In that capacity, she published several articles, including her note - Iran’s Discriminatory Ban and Seating Cap Imposed on Women Sports Spectators. Ms. Berouty was also a member of the Latin American Law Student Association, the National Women’s Law Student Association, and the Corporate Law Society.
As a law student, Ms. Berouty also worked as a People’s Justice Fellow at Harvard Law’s Labor and Worklife Program. Here, she worked with a coalition of Attorneys General focused on workers’ rights and researched OSHA standards as applied to various industries’ working conditions. Ms. Berouty also worked on Columbia Law School’s Eviction Moratorium Project, research of which has been featured by the DPCC, NPR, NBC, CNN, and the CDC.
Prior to joining the firm in 2022, Ms. Berouty served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Lara K. DiFabrizio, J.S.C. and observed first-hand how the judicial system works, drafting judicial orders and opinions later filed as judgments of the court.
