Attorneys for Employment Discrimination
The New York City Human Rights Law and the New York State Human Rights Law may provide a basis to recover damages if you were subject to discrimination, harassment, or retaliation on the job. These laws provide comprehensive protection for many different characteristics. Certain federal laws may also provide protection depending on the size of your employer. For example, federal Title VII of the Civil Rights Act prohibits workplace discrimination on the basis of an employee’s race, color, national origin, religion, and sex, if you work for a company that has at least 15 employees.
Gender Motivated Violence
Unfortunately violence related to gender, include sex crimes, remain prevalent, even in these times following the “Me Too” movement. Under the New York City Victims of Gender Motivated Violence Protection law, you may be able to pursue damages from someone who abused you in civil court, as well as any entities responsible for that abuse.
Additionally, a recent amendment to the law give you a two year window from March 1,2023-March 1, 2025, to file a claim related to your gender-motivated violent assault. When gender-motivated violence occurs on the job, you may have several different possibilities for relief, including a workplace harassment cause of action.
