A lawsuit brought by Phillips & Associates, PLLC was recently profiled in The South Shore Press.
Filed last month in federal court, the lawsuit raises allegations of sexual harassment within the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT).
About the Case
As reported by The South Shore Press, our firm is representing a client who claims that she was subjected to ongoing sexual harassment by her supervisor while working as a Highway Repairer at NYC DOTs Brooklyn Yard.
The complaint alleges that upon our client being transferred to a different work unit in 2023, her supervisor began making unsolicited offers to help her with work tasks and made repeated contact outside of work hours to ask invasive personal questions. Despite our client rejecting these advances, we claim in the suit, the supervisor escalated the situation by following her to job sites and spreading false rumors about our client’s relationships with male coworkers.
In the lawsuit, our firm claims that the supervisor’s conduct created a hostile work environment for our client and that the NYC DOT is vicariously liable for the supervisor’s actions due to the department’s failure to address allegations after being notified of the situation.
Fighting for Justice
At Phillips & Associates, PLLC, we know cases like this, and the coverage they receive, help highlight the persistent issue of workplace sexual harassment and the various forms it can take. This includes any unwelcome and offensive words, gestures, or actions that are of a sexual or romantic nature, and which may involve quid pro quo harassment, meaning “something (in exchange for) something,” or create a hostile work environment.
As noted in our latest suit, sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by federal, New York state, and local NYC law. Workers who experience sexual harassment on the job can file complaints using their employer’s internal grievance procedures and may have options for filing charges with the EEOC or filing suit against their employer if they fails to take corrective action.
Just as we have done for countless workers across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida, our team at Phillips & Associates, PLLC is committed to aggressively litigating this matter and helping our client in the fight for justice. We’re also available to help others learn more about workplace sexual harassment and their legal rights. Call (866) 229-9441 or contact us online to speak with a member of our team
